Event Details

This Easter Thursday (April 13th), the First Word family ascend again upon the Book Club for an evening overflowing with vibes.

After road block Easter Thursdays at The Book Club in 2015 & 2016 with guest including Tall Black Guy, Jon Phonics and Children of Zeus, we had to get back to the East London Basement once more!

Souleance (DJ set)
Darkhouse Family
DJ Gilla

Releasing a number of records for us at First Word over the years, Souleance's heady mix of Hip Hop, Soul, Disco-House, Electronics and Beats is well known to cause dancefloor damage. Forming a partnership back in 2006, the combination of Fulgeance's production skills and Soulist's organic influences (via his popular Paris events 'What the Funk') creates a groove that combines the rough with the smooth effortlessly. Live and direct from France, Fulgeance will be bringing a certain je ne sais quoi to the Book Club tonight, for sure.

Darkhouse Family are recent signings to the First Word stable, releasing an EP last year, 'Solid Gold'. Don Leisure and Earl Jeffers have previously had releases on labels such as Fat City and Earnest Endeavours, building a fanbase that includes Lefto, Gaslamp Killer and Gilles Peterson. As DJs, they've appeared on Boiler Room, Rinse FM, NTS, Fabric and Solid Steel. Bridging the gap between the Hip Hop & Beats world, with a touch of Jungle/D&B sonic weaponry, these guys know how to put it down properly.

They are joined by First Word's head-honcho, DJ Gilla, and Excursions resident, Andwot, of Touching Bass. Slicing through genres far and wide, from across the globe, this event is set to be one to remember.

Music: Funk, Soul, Disco, Hip-hop, Afro
