Event Details

Guests: Hadley Freeman, Sali Hughes, Will Smith

Come and join us at this summer's hot ’n’ steamy literary salon where we are discussing rom-coms (and what it is that makes them so great) with die-hard movie fans Hadley Freeman and Sali Hughes. From When Harry Met Sally to Clueless to Crazy Stupid Love, we’ll be covering what rom-coms can teach us about love and life, feminist messages (if indeed there are any), how today’s offerings measure up to the 80’s classics, and everything in between.

Hadley Freeman is the much loved Guardian columnist and author of LIFE MOVES PRETTY FAST: THE LESSONS WE LEARNED FROM EIGHTIES MOVIES AND WHY WE DON'T LEARN THEM FROM MOVIES ANY MORE. Writer and journalist Sali Hughes is the resident beauty columnist at the Guardian and author of PRETTY HONEST: THE STRAIGHT-TALKING BEAUTY COMPANION and the upcoming PRETTY ICONIC. Chaired by Will Smith, writer and star of Bafta-winning BBC comedy The Thick of It.

Doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm start. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A, book signing and a chance to meet the panel.

Time: 7pm - 9pm
