Come celebrate Grace Jones as we launch ‘Sheroes’ - a new weekly series of Ground Floor events, which focuses on a different artist each month

‘Sheroes’ is a new weekly series is launching at The Book Club this October, celebrating seminal female music and style icons that have created a lasting legacy in pop culture. The series will tie into a monthly series of micro networking meetups hosted by contemporary DJs and musicians that are making waves in London.

Paying homage to a different artist each month and running every Thursday, a pool of resident DJs (including Lucie Grace (NTS) and Nadia will play a choice selection of their favourite tracks by the artist as well as selections that have influenced these DJS wider music collection.

Grace Jones has made less of an imprint, more of a volcanic crater, on music culture and the style scene alike, and, at age 70 it still feels like she has plenty more fire left to galvanise her legacy to forever status.  It’s hugely significant that two of the biggest artists in the world right now - Rhianna and Lady Gaga, have both named Grace as a major influence. And there are certainly enough examples of her audacious behaviour, as equally reflected in formal TV interviews as it is nightclubs, to magnetise us lesser mortals and leave our mouths gaping open in awe at her sheer ‘Graceness’.

If you haven’t watched the Netflix documentary ‘Bloodlight and Bami’ that came out last year, it’s a must see for a masterclass in performance, raw talent and downright sass. There is simply no one else that comes close to her unique artistry – undoubtedly the reason her records remain on rotation in nightclubs every weekend around the world.
