Event Details
Kelly Anna is taking over The Book Club in Shoreditch as part of their ‘Summer of Sport’ season. Kelly’s work will focus on celebrating the female’s inner champion under the title ‘She Stole The Show’.
Today’s society is filled with constant pressure and self-doubt whether through work, relationships or our online personas.
Through this exhibition, Kelly Anna will explore the dichotomy between these external forces and our own internal strength. With her strong use of colour, bold graphics, witty slogans and powerful figures, she examines the links between art, physicality, psychological persistence and drive as tools for coping in this new 24-hour online world we have all been thrown into.
The show Kelly Anna has made a name for herself not only as an artist working for various brands and publications (including collaborating on her own collection with Nike), but also through her exciting live illustration. She will be bringing this to The Book Club on the opening night of her exhibition, creating a mural, live, for guests to watch over and exploring concepts of strength and power, utilising a number of mediums.
As well as muralling the space and transforming The Book Club into a new graphic world, Kelly will be using her print making skills to reconstruct the space by producing limited edition printed curtains, clothing and more.
Kelly Anna has also invited the Art of Ping Pong to collaborate on the re-design of The Book Club’s ping pong room to create a whole new space. Kelly customised one of Art of Ping Pong’s mini ArtTables last November and through this initial work they have developed a strong relationship and mutual understanding of the importance between the arts, sport and our health.
Art of Ping Pong will also be using this occasion to showcase their brand new full size ArtTable design that releases later this year.
The launch event is free to attend and all are invited to join for what promises to be a playful and lively night!
The djs for the night will be Born ‘n Bred, Martelo, Maurice Alexander, Zezi Ifore and Peigh.
There will be t-shirts, totes, zines, posters, ping pong bats and other merchandise items on sale. 10% of all sales from the launch night will go to the local mental health charity Mind in the City, Hackney & Waltham Forrest.
The exhibition will run from 12th July until 4th November
