FUTURE SELVES: how is technology changing who I am? with Joe Muggs

Justin Robertson's desire in It's Alive! (the current exhibition running at The Book Club through till July 8th) to look at “what it is to be human, what it is to be a conscious being and to what extent everything is ‘alive’” is the jump off point for this mind-expanding evening hosted by renowned music and culture writer Joe Muggs (FACT, Mixmag, The Guardian, Dazed).

All of us are familiar with the sense of being overwhelmed by “too much information” in the social media age. The human animal is a social creature, and our identities have always been defined by our families, clans, tribes and other connections – but what does that mean in this era where everything is connected?

Joe Muggs is gathering a panel of experts to explore this topic: Technologist and AI expert BEN BASHFORD; culture writer YOMI ADEGOKE and leading speech communication neuroscientist and Guardian contributer  SOPHIE SCOTT.

This leftfield panel discussion which will explore the space where neuroscience, technology and culture collide and take place in a chillout room setting, a context perfectly designed to let thoughts and themes expand into the unknown….

Light and sound by artist, designer and musician James Cameron aka Kams / Ry9n.

‘It’s Alive’ is a FREE exhibition by Justin Robertson at The Book Club running from 26th April – 8th July 2018
